Women have made significant strides towards equality over the past few decades. And women in Santa Barbara County, in particular, enjoy advantages that women in other communities don’t have. But none of us are totally there yet.
The Orfalea Foundation, in partnership with Cause and Women’s Festivals, crunched statistics to create an infographic snapshot of women in Santa Barbara County in 2014. Some of the discrepancies are surprising — for example, women in SBC make up 54% of the population, but only 30% of elected officials. Overall, the results show that equality is still a goal, not an accomplishment — and that Latina women and girls have even further to go.
